Your true self, visualized

Uncategorized

I hope it wasn’t too conspicuous that I haven’t produced a comic or much of any other comment on the atrocity in Orlando. Part of the reason why is I feel I already said what I have to offer in my comic on guns a few weeks ago, which I reposted on Twitter and Facebook the morning after news of the shooting broke. I had hoped the gun violence argument of that one was becoming less and less relevant, and I was sad to be shown that wasn’t the case.

Of course, I hope it goes without saying that I stand in support with the LGBTQI community at large, and offer my condolences to the survivors and the families of the victims.

The other thing that has kept me occupied this week has been producing this:

Jessi_small.png

A reader of the site, and, I like to think, dear friend of mine, who is in the beginning stages of her transition, commissioned me to create a visualization of the woman she is working to become. I call this a “True-Self Portrait” and it is something I have been wanting to move into doing for people ever since another dear friend of mine drew a picture of me when I was first starting my transition:

Few things have meant more to me than receiving this drawing. Thank you, Marc.

It meant so much to me, not only to have a visual representation of my true self, but to have one produced by another person; to know that someone else could see the woman that I am.

Ever since then I have been determined to offer that same service to others. To help them feel the same way I did.

So, not only I am now offering this service to the public, but because I feel it is so useful and important, the rates I charge (because, yeah, I need to charge money for my art, unfortunately) will be significantly reduced from my normal commission rates. To learn more or to place an order, go to the True-Self Portrait Page or you can e-mail me directly @ lifeofbria@gmail.com.

We CAN see who you are. And you are magnificent.

Holy graphic novels online, Batman!

Uncategorized

Web_NoOther_2I’ve decided to try something. I’ve decided to release my current graphic novel project, No Other, serially online. It is always better for people to be reading your work rather than not. So rather than sitting on this book until a publisher picks it up, I’m putting it out into the world for people to have a look at. If there’s enough interest, I’ll get it printed. But until then, enjoy! And if you enjoy it enough, consider donating so I can keep this all going.

BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

I’ve also decided to release the first chapter of my very first full-length graphic novel, Time Tourists, online as well!! I get a lot of positive reviews from people who read the book, and so I’d just like it if more people were exposed to it. Check out the first chapter, and if you like it enough, you can order the book online. It only gets better and better as it goes on!

If you like those, you’ll probably like my short, moralistic comic novella, Grasshopper vs Ants. It’s a fun little story I did back in art school that I appreciate more and more with time. You can read the whole thing online, as well as order hard copies.

Talking with Roundhouse Radio and a LifeofBria podcast??

Uncategorized

Yesterday I sat down for a spectacular talk with Minelle Mahtani on The Sense of Place program for Vancouver’s own Roundhouse Radio. Take a listen and let me know how you thought I sounded! I had such a wonderful time and would gladly come back to Roundhouse whenever they’ll have me again!

I had a great chat in the lobby before the interview, too! And, yes, this is a real, honest to god polaroid taken of that conversation.

I honestly just love talking with people about stimulating topics. So not only would I love to come in for an interview with anyone, anytime (hit me up newspapers, TV stations, and podcasts! Big or small, I’ll be happy to talk to you about pretty much anything!), but I’ve honestly been kicking around the idea of doing a LifeofBria podcast for a while now. What do you think? Does that sound like something you would want to listen to? Let me know, and if there’s interest I’ll start putting something together.

Computer Update: I have wonderful fans!

Uncategorized

After putting out a call for help to replace my non-working, never-that-great-to-begin-with computer I very quickly found out how much I’m loved and how very lucky I am.

Within a couple of hours I raised all the money I needed to get a working computer and I’m pleased to announce that LifeofBria will be back on track by Thursday next week!

I honestly had been struggling for some time with whether or not what I’m doing here had any value. It’s a great big, lonely world out there for artists and content creators, and you often just can’t tell whether or not anybody is listening to what you are saying. Well, yesterday I learned that people are listening.  I learned that I am loved, that people care about what I’m doing here, and that in some small way, I matter. And now, knowing that I actually have a following of people who care about what I do, I’m going to work even harder at LifeofBria! I’m going to keep pushing with what I’m doing because, it matters, goddammit!

So, please, if you like somebody’s art or writing or their activism or anything special that they do, tell them. No matter how famous or unknown or outside of your usual social circle they are, let them know that somebody saw their work and it affected them.

Because, trust me, no matter who they are, hearing that will mean the world to them.

Thanks for all the love! I won’t let you down!

Please help keep LifeofBria going!

Microsoft’s automatic OS update to Windows 10 has broken my computer, right in the middle of while I was working on this week’s comic, no less.

Behold! Windows 10 in all its glory!

As a poor artist, I am unable to afford to repair or replace it (and, honestly, it was never really up to the demands I put on it anyway).

So, if you like LifeofBria, and would like to see me post more comics, I need your help. Because until I replace my computer, there’s not going to be anymore comics. Please, I’m a very proud person, and I really wouldn’t be asking for this if I had some other option.

You can use the “Donate” button on the top menu to contribute via PayPal. Any amount helps, and how much I put together will determine what solution I am able to enact for this situation.

Making art and running this website is my entire life, and I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do with myself if I am no longer able to do that.

Moar Bria, moar places!

Uncategorized

I’m so very, very proud to announce that LifeofBria comics will now be cross-posted on Tgforum.com, a resource that has served the community for longer than I can remember!

I’m honored to be included as a contributor to such a long standing and important pillar of the community.

There are actually tons of places you can keep up to date with LifeofBria. From following

Father’s Day is coming up. Why not get your dad a Custom Card By Bria?

me on Twitter Or by following the LifeofBria Facebook Page. Comics are also posted regularly on reddit via r/transgender.

Also, I hate doing this, but, seriously, I need money. Making comics is time consuming, and generally speaking, the majority of the work I do is completely unpaid.  You can support lifeofbria.com by hiring me to produce commissions or custom greeting cards, or by donating to me directly via paypal Donate with PayPal .

I’m going to keep doing this no matter what, but there is a direct correlation between how much content I can produce and how little I have to work at outside jobs. If I can make this my full time job, believe me, I will, and it is you, dear readers, who will benefit the most from that.
